2020 Hyundai Elantra Gas Mileage Improved

The popular Hyundai Elantra compact car is returning for the 2020 model year with a new transmission that helped boost its estimated fuel economy by 2 mpg combined, plus new technology, interior features, and more.

The new transmission, an Intelligent Variable Transmission or IVT, is a continuously variable transmission that mimics the feel of gear shifting, maintaining both the excellent fuel economy of CVTs without diminishing the driver’s enjoyment.

When equipped with the IVT, the Elantra can get up to 35 mpg combined on the base trim, with higher trims rated at 34 mpg combined.* The IVT is standard on all trim levels except the Eco and Sport trims, which will instead feature a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. No fuel economy figures have been released yet for the seven-speed.

The addition of Engine Idle Stop & Go on the Eco model is another fuel-saving tech on the new Elantra. But there’s plenty more to look forward to besides the increase in the Hyundai Elantra gas mileage rating, like the addition of three new standard active safety features: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning.

The new Elantra also adds a 3.5-inch screen in the instrument cluster and Dual Automatic Temperature Control, on top of already available Qi wireless charging, smartphone integration, and a standard 5-inch color audio system.
